As you may know, we here at Elk+Elm value our couples as if they were our own family and close friends (and if you’ve worked with us, I’m sure we all agree we are friends anyway 😀 ). We love to learn more about our couples, not only their love story, but who they are as individuals, which brings us back to Disha! You have probably seen photos of her wedding around our website and social media with her beautiful rose gold color pallate, or maybe on Maharani Weddings where her wedding was recently featured! But did you know she also has a podcast where she discusses the intricacies of interracial/interfaith dating? It’s titled: But What Will People Say?, based on an archaic idiom of South Asian culture. Here’s what Disha has to say about her podcast:
Disha enjoying the aesthetic of Main Street Somerville
Disha in the studio “spilling the Chai” on interracial relationshipsBut What Will People Say? explores the unique human experience of interracial and interfaith dating in the South Asian diaspora. In a culture of “log kya kahenge” (what will people say?), dating outside of cultural norms is often forbidden and at times even taboo. BWWPS aims to push the boundaries of what South Asian culture considers traditional and attempt to define what it means to be “Indian American”. We share the stories of those who have chosen to live unapologetically and dissect all the often complicated emotions and experiences that come with being in an interracial relationship.

We love to keep in touch with our couples to see what new and exciting things they are up to. In her free time, Disha also loves to cook and regularly posts to her Instagram: @dishesbydishes; Can somebody say #foodporn ? If you are dying to hear more, you can check out her podcast on Spotify or iTunes; be sure to listen to the episode where we are guest speaking about our experience with her and other fusion weddings!
