Ingenuity
A wedding day should be a day of celebration and love; a time to come together with family and friends as you embark on this incredible new journey. It always pains us to see the wedding process become stressful. Every wedding will present unique challenges, and there are some things that fall outside of anyone’s control. It falls to the pro-staff to be pro-active, recognize these problems and create solutions before they’re ever even an issue. If you don’t have an idea of how things can go awry, check out this article. As wedding photographers, we spend the most time with the couple out of any pro-staff member. A good photographer might react to issues throughout the day and problem-solve. A great photographer will rely on their ingenuity to pro-actively smooth out these kinks so that they can live their best story.
Cleverness doesn’t just save the day; it creates art. The best wedding photographers experiment and strive to push the boundaries of our trade. They don’t stick to the same old stuff that just ‘works’. You want to be a wedding photographer that is inventive and looks to take artistic risks on top of safe documentation. An experienced wedding photographer with a burning passion for their craft will be able to tell a wedding story in the unique light it deserves.
Passion
The saying goes “do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” We know it’s cliche, but it’s essential to see have this love for the art in as a wedding photographer. There are plenty of good, experienced photographers out there who can capture a wedding day. Great wedding photographers are passionate people that will go the lengths to make sure the day is perfect, without the need to nickel and dime someone.
We discovered we have this passion for telling stories and decided this NEEDED to be a part of our lives. We love the emotions that unfold on a wedding day and the immense love we see between our clients. Yes, we are “wedding photographers”, but our true calling is storytelling. Photographs are simply the medium we use to communicate those stories. If your passionate, driven and experienced, your clients will trust you to capture their story in a way that is both artistic and beautiful.
Inquisitiveness
Crafting a wedding story should be a collaborative effort between you AND the couple. Seeing what they see is an essential concept for you to take to heart, and it starts with genuine interest. People can tell whether someone is taking to heart what they’re saying, or if they’re just thinking about the next question to ask. You want to be prepared to tell the story on the day of their wedding and you can not do that without understanding both of their desires, knowing the nuances of their love for each other, and picking out the details that will help you focus on the important bits. Weddings are busy, and you need to be focused on telling the moments of the story that they care about most. Be someone who is inquisitive, who asks the right questions and is genuinely curious about love stories.
Like love, art should not be one-sided.
